The start of a new work year

Today was my second day back at work and the first full work day and it did not start well. I woke up, went through to the bathroom and brushed my teeth. My blue insulin case was there on the side of the basin. "Ah, must take that, " I thought as I climbed into the shower.

I got dressed and put on my make-up. The little blue case lay patiently next to the basin. "Must put that in my bag," I thought as I left the bathroom to get my handbag.

I put my handbag next to the front door and went back to the kitchen to get something to take along for breakfast. As I walked past the bathroom I saw my insulin case and thought, "Must pick that up on my way back."

I put on my coat, H locked the flat door and we got the lift down to the underground garage. Our building was broken into over Christmas and now security is a high priority, although I have my doubts about the strategy being used. We climbed out of the lift, unlocked the first fire door, unlocked the second fire door (it is usually possible to open both these doors from the inside) and entered the garage.

As I put my bags in the car I realised I did not have my insulin case.

"I’ll just run upstairs and get my insulin, " I said to H, "I’ll met you outside the front door."

I unlocked the second fire door, again. I unlocked the first fire door, again, and caught the lift up to our flat, ran inside and there was my blue insulin case still sitting in the bathroom. I grabbed it and ran downstairs. And unlocked the door to the hall. And unlocked the door to get out the building. And almost kicked out the glass of said door. If I had been wearing heavier shoes, I swear I would have given it a good try.

The burglars might not be able to get into our building but the residents very nearly cannot get out. Curses. Many curses. May this security frenzy pass quickly.
